Sabine Lisicki says she has “unfinished business” at Wimbledon and the former finalist is targeting a return to form there this summer.
The 29-year-old German has suffered a dramatic decline in recent years because of injuries and is currently ranked 299th in the world. Since she lost the Wimbledon final in straight sets to Marion Bartoli in 2013, Lisicki has made the quarter-finals in 2014 and the last 32 in 2015 and 2016.
But she was knocked out in the first round of Wimbledon in 2017 and failed to qualify in 2018. Speaking to German newspaper Bild on Sunday, Lisicki said she is determined to return to the biggest stage. “I have unfinished business at Wimbledon, and it would be great if I can be there this summer,” she said.
Her comeback on the WTA tour begins this week when she plays on a wildcard invitation to the Charleston Open.

And, as she prepares to turn 30 later this year, the German has insisted she is not too old to make a comeback. “There are plenty of good players who are older than 30 and are celebrating the biggest successes of their careers,” she added. “Giving up is not an option for me.
If it was up to me I would be crawling off the court at the end of every training session. “Roger Federer once said that I take defeats too much to heart and he was right. I don’t just play tennis, I live the sport. And my emotions have often carried me to victory. That’s just how I am.”
