Bayern Munich Polish striker Robert Lewandowski has equalled Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for most goals scored in a calendar year – with both stars registering 69 goals eight years apart.
Ronaldo achieved the feat during his time at Real Madrid, while Lewandowski has matched his effort while plying his trade for Bayern Munich.

Due to the Bundesliga enjoying a winter break over the bulk of the festive period, Lewandowski had one final chance to write his name into the history books before the season suspended action for Christmas.
Welcoming Wolfsburg to the Allianz Arena, Bayern were comfortably favourites and quickly showed why, with Thomas Muller putting the hosts in front after just seven minutes.
Two goals in quick succession from Dayot Upamecano and Leroy Sane just before the hour mark put the game beyond any doubt, but there were still question marks over whether Lewandowski could break the record.
In the end, the Poland international had to settle for equalling it, getting on the scoresheet just before the full-time whistle – marking his 69th goal of the calendar year.
