Can someone give me a snippet of the SE vs France friendly of June 2009? – Pompei, Deo, Edoman, Dr. Drey, Dr. Banks, GLORY, Omo9ja, etc ….. anybody. I was very much around but out of circulation by then – don’t ask for details. I don’t want to pollute my mind by watching Youtube extracts or reading biased commentaries.
Oh broda man Kanga A. Yeah just taking I man down memory lane. One of the best performances of our darling SE. Tough to remember in detail every happening though, but like you asked, snippet from that game, I can manage are:
1) Nigeria won 1-0. Kalu Uche hit a good left shot from the right corner of the 18 yards and ball was already in the net but had to come out to kiss the legs of Akpala before finally resting in the net.
2) There was a funny incidence where it seemed every of our SE players were scared of wearing the 10 jersey hence a defender in the person of Adeleye had to wear it.
3) Some of the players I can remember that featured included, Vincent enyeama, Adeleye, Sam Sodje, Adefemi, Echejile, Olofijana, Kanu, Kalu brothers, Akpala, Osazee. Kanu was captain
4) For France; they had Patrice Viera as Captain, Patrice Evra, young Benzema, logic Remi, Anelja, Ribery, Thierry Henry as sub, etc.
5) Nigeria team was coached by Late Shaibu/ Amokachi.
6) Nigeria scored in the first half .
@ Kanga A this is about all I can remember for now. Hopefully this help. God bless.
It was Ik Uche @Glory. He did 90% of the work, mesmerising his man before hitting a ferocious grounder at the post. Akpala finished up after the ball bounced off the woodwork. I think the team was under the tutelage of Amodu Shuabu then. 1-0 to Nigeria versus France in Paris. Ik Uche was one guy that never truly fulfilled his huge potentials under Keshi and Lagerback (more talented than his big brother, Kalu Uche, in my opinion). Never understood what these coaches had against him.
Yeah very true. It was actually Ike Uche. Thanks for the correction and again, to think of how Ike Uche with his rare talent was schemed out of SE especially at a time he was at his prime leaves one really concerned about ever trusting our Nigerian coaches, wherein the few decent/ honest ones are bound to suffer from the corrupt disposition of the lot.
I won’t be surprise if yobo is made the coach of the super eagles if Rorh is sacked that is the plass of amaju and co
