Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc says he “deserved what happened” following his crash in qualifying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Leclerc set the pace in Q1 as he looked to challenge for his second pole of the season, but a crash in Q2 ruled him out of the final stage of qualifying and he will start Sunday’s race in Baku from 10th on the grid.
It was a disappointing end to what promised to be a positive qualifying performance and the 21-year-old was hugely critical of his display, saying he got everything he deserved for crashing.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “I deserve what happened today, I am very very sad for what happened – I have been stupid as I said on the radio.
I’ve calmed down. I’ll push to learn from it and come back stronger but hopefully in the race tomorrow. “Pole was possible after looking at my pace across the weekend.
You can definitely overtake here, so I will push tomorrow, so for the next few hours I will be beating myself up.”
