Bruno Labbadia has offered an explanation on why he rejected the chance to manage the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Labbadia was appointed head coach of the Super Eagles by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on August 27, 2024.
The 58-year-old however pulled out of the agreement three days later.
The German tactician reportedly turned down NFF’s request due to financial differences.
The former Hamburg tactician has now opened up on his decision to quit the role.

“I wanted to go abroad now. The basic premise for me was, i have to go to Nigeria to see everything firsthand. That didn’t happen anymore after it was announced“, Labbadia told Flatterball podcast.
“It wasn’t about the salary anymore either. There were several organizational issues, which were problematic. It then got worse and worse, so I didn’t have two days left to meet the national team. Then I pulled the reins because the feeling was getting worse and worse.
“I wanted to be in Nigeria four, five days ahead of time, before the players arrives, to look at the experiences.” That didn’t work.
Labbadia also reflected on his conversation with the NFF.
“They were good conversations. And it matters to me: It was one and only my feeling that I didn’t have the time I needed to 100-percent concentration. That’s why I said goodbye.”

We don’t know who is saying the truth between nff and labbadia.
now we can see why NFF has not been able to secure a reputable foreign coach to take up the role to coach the Super Eagles. Lack of professionalism in terms of organization, failure to provide and maintain good facilities and also NFF’s corruption shenanigans are part of things that stand in the way to get a good coach to want to work with our Football body. Even though these have not been mentioned but you could read between the lines what went down while the coaches and the body were discussing the possibilities. If you will recall, Havre Renard, Handersson and Labadia… all declined at the last minute.. As professionals who know how things work will not take a risk to take the job because they see what we don’t see. Havre Renard said he almost too the job with Nigeria, money was not the issue…. Nigeria gave him the best offer…..Handerson did not complain about money and now Labadia….Hear Labadai….. “I wanted to go abroad. The basic requirement for me was: I have to go to Nigeria to see everything on site. And that was no longer possible after it was announced,” Labbadia told Bild. “It was no longer about the pay. There were various organizational things that were problematic. And then things got tighter and tighter, so that I didn’t have two days left for the meeting with the national team. Then I pulled the ripcord because the feeling was getting worse and worse.”….“I was tempted to play in the Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup. Above all, to play in a World Cup with a team that would not have to hide from the big teams.”….So, it’s the NFF people that are actually delaying until they find that coach that will play and bend to their corruption game.
