Kano Pillars have mourned the death of tbeir former player Abubakar Lawal who passed away in Uganda on Monday.
Lawal, who played for Uganda Premier League club Vipers Sports Club, was said to have died in a traffic accident while on his way to training
But in a statement released by the Uganda Police, Lawal died after falling from a building.
Reacting to the death of the 29-year-old, who also played for Wikki Tourists and Nasarawa United, Kano Pillars wrote on their X handle:”We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of our former player, Abubakar Lawal. His untimely departure is a great loss to the football community.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to Lawal’s family, friends, and loved ones.
“May his soul RIP.”
Vipers SC head of communications, Abdul Wasike, had confirmed the death on Monday.
“It is a sad day as we communicate the death of our player Lawal. We are still trying to gather more information about the accident,” Wasike said.
Lawal joined Vipers in 2022 from Rwanda Premier League side AS Kigali.
