Former Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro is under pressure to keep his job at Egyptian club, Zamalek following the team’s elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup.
Zamalek were eliminated from the competition, 1-0 on aggregate by South Africa’s Stellenbosch on Wednesday.
The White Knights held Stellenbosch to a 0-0 draw in the first leg last week.

Sihle Nduli however stunned the defending champions with the winning goal 11 minutes from time.
Peseiro took charge of the Egyptian giants in February, 2025.
Zamalek have won five, drawn six and lost two of their 13 games across all competitions under his tutelage.

South African teams bossing the continent..A big boost for the national teams and kudos to the FA..
Hardwork pays, lessons for our corrupt and inept authorities who messed up our world Cup qualification by not appointing a quality coach early enough to steer us through this marathon of games..
Our qualification is now hanging by a thread.
Very precarious and avoidable situation!
It’s a pity NFF is “you chop, me too, I chop, no wahala!” The whole system needs to be radically overhauled. Eguavoen should be show the door, and the inept board members stripped of their offices. It’s no retirement home.
It’s just shameful, @Greenturf, to see the massive strides South African clubs are making on the continent while Nigerian club sides have suddenly become minnows in African competitions.
How are the mighty fallen! From the days of BCC Lions, El-Kanemi Warriors, Abiola Babes, Ranchers Bees of Kaduna, Bendel Insurance, Julius Berger of Lagos, and the Rangers Intl and 3SC of old — teams that once commanded fear across Africa.
From Mamelodi Sundowns to Orlando Pirates, and now Stellenbosch, these South African teams are bossing Maghrebian club sides in the final 8 of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup. The same North African teams that routinely dump our clubs out with ease — beating them home and away without breaking a sweat. Lol.
Who’s running the NPFL, NPWL, and NNL, for Pete’s sake? It’s clearly not working. South Africa’s investment in their domestic league — world-class stadiums, top-tier local or foreign coaches, proper player welfare, a standard non-playing staff structure, and excellent facilities — is clearly paying off.
Corrupt and inept Nigerian sports officials think the old saying “you reap what you sow” doesn’t apply. You can’t corrupt your way out of that truth.
No wonder South Africa can confidently source national team players directly from their clubs — copying Egypt’s past template, which saw them win a record 7 AFCON titles.
And SA is slowly inching closer to their 2nd Afcon crown. They’ve already done it with AWCON while dethroning Nigeria along the way.
Can Nigeria even dream of sourcing half of its national team from the NPFL? It’s always private-run football academies to the rescue — producing 90% of our foreign-based stars.
It’s a pathetic situation — a complete shame to all the pot-bellied, grossly inept local league administrators.
“……The same North African teams that routinely dump our clubs out with ease — beating them home and away without breaking a sweat…”
I almost burst my lungs with laughter while reading that line…..LMAOOoo
South African PSL teams regularly roast North African sides in CAF competitions…..many times at the advanced stages of the competitions….home or away they will stand toe to toe with them, and this has been so for almost a decade now. Whereas North African teams are always the end of the road for our own teams, usually in the prelims or the 1st round……LMAOooo.
If anyone wants to know whether we truly have talents in the NPFL, just watch our NPFL teams play North African teams, especially away……LMAOooo….you will almost throw up.
SA’s PSL will present 4 teams, all 4 will reach the group stages and 3 will make it to the semis. Nigerian’s NPFL will present the same 4 and all 4 will not make it to the group phase.
Yet we must reserve a home-based quota in our National team…..LMOAOooo
Very unserious people…!
Ok… @Dr.Drey. Tell us… let us have a blueprint how to make our league as solid as the SA league… oya over to you!
Who is going to tell him it is the oga at the top of the sports commission….hehehe. Success is never an accident.
If it is not wickedness, how is Papa Daniel picked ahead of uche chrisantus, Fisayo dele-bashiru, gift orban , Akinsanmiro.
The major problem we have is our incompetent officials.
The coaching crew and players are obviously important, but if the administrators are incompetent, we might as well be pouring water into a leaking basket. This is the elephant in the room that we must address first. If we get the administration right, we will experience a significant uptick in results.
Can’t we learn from Morocco and SA? Even Ghana are doing well now, thanks to their officials. All our own are interested in is sharing money and interfering with team list. They won’t even allow Chelle to select his own players. They imposed most of the players we used in the last world cup qualifiers on the new coach. Give him a free hand to make his own selection…dem no go gree.
Because their stomach is their priority.
Competent administration is the difference right now between SA and Nigeria. If SA had their best players playing outside their leagues like Nigeria, they would coordinate and still build a formidable team. All it takes is transparency and planning ahead. We have our best players plying their trades abroad. If our best players were in Nigeria, this NFF will still find a way to mess things up. In those days, when we had Leventis United, Abiola Babes and the rest of those strong clubs, how often did we qualify for world cups, or win Afcon? They messed us up then, and they continue to mess us up now. Until we get the administration right, I’m afraid the cycle of under achieving will continue.
