Rangers new manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst says he is so far satisfied with the performance of young Nigerian left-back Calvin Bassey.
The 21-year-old has featured in van Bronckhorst’s opening two games since replacing Steven Gerrard as Rangers’ manager.
Both games, which ended in victories, against Sparta Prague in the Europa League and Livinston in the league, saw Bassey play for 90 minutes.
The former Leicester City youth player was drafted into an unfamiliar central defence role and impressed.

And speaking in his pre-match presser ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Hibernian, van Bronckhorst praised Bassey for his qualities.
He also stated the club will do everything possible to develop the talented youngster.
“I’ve been really impressed with Calvin (Bassey) as he does not have a lot of experience in the central positions.
“He has a lot of physical strength and we will help him to develop and grow.
“He is very open to learning and is full of energy.”
So far this season, Bassey has made 16 appearances in all competitions bagging three assists.

Nah Gernot Rohr will not even give him 2 mins. Even to cap tie him for the last 1 minute in the game against CAR but then look at his substitution against CV….. Brings in Iheanacho and Onuachu in the dying minutes. The only sub that made sense was Frank
Footballfanatic,
I was also amazed that Rohr did not seize the opportunity to cap tie Bassey. The guy is proving to be a versatile player. Can play as a full back, wing back, and has recently done very well in the center back position.
In a time that we need reinforcements in the back, I would think Rohr will be quick to cap this guy….Just like you stated he is a versatile player and can even play as a LCB…
Super Eagles need a left footed central defender in the team. Bassey may not be a natural centre back but his team is helping him develop that side of his game. We are supposed to take the opportunity to cap tie him to the super eagles and maybe draft him to the u-23 for more experience. I even feel he can outplay players like collins in the left back position. Our coaches have stopped identifying young talents and are instead going for older players who have played their best football years ago and the only thing they are achieving is more caps when they play. Please, bring in young talents into the team and let them develop and grow with the team.
Soccer is not all about name or where you play but what you can archive in the field of play,I remember westerhof who made some home based payers like amokachi what they are during their playing days.therefore,am using this medium to let the new Super Eagles coach to invite the young lad(Bassey) to the upcoming nations cup and the remaining part of the world cup qualification cos he is currently in form at his club in Scotland.
Bassey na baller a beg. A most deserving Super Eagles player. Lolzzzz
Even bagging 3 assists in 16 games as a defender? Plus his versatility! And someone would claim Gernot knows?
Nigeria needs to cap-tie this Calvin Bassey guy ASAP.He holds the future of our left-back department. He is just 21 and showing alot of promises.
Left-backs aren’t easy to find, talk more of good ones.
That is the reason why i said rohr is not technically fit for super eagles football is more than assembled players as a coach of a team what kind of plans do you have for your team do you have future plans like 5yrs development plans let say having Team A, Team B, Team C probably team C should be your under 23 where the likes of Tom dele playing in Watford Kelvin Bassey as well this are the work of national football coach even if your employer doesn’t have this plans you as a coach what is the you were been employed i rest my case there are a lot of things rohr should been doing.
