Former coach of Italy, Arrigo Sacchi has urged the Azzurri (Blues) to prepare diligently for the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament.
The Italian national team qualified for Euro 2024 on Monday, November 20 after a 0-0 draw with Ukraine at BayArena.
The result sees the Luciano Spalleti led side finish second in Group C of qualifying with 14 points after eight games.
Luciano Spalleti was appointed coach of Italy on August 18 succeeding Roberto Mancini at the helm of affairs.
In an interview with gazzetta.it, Sacchi said the Italians need to be cautious and not repeat the mistakes of the past.

“It ended well. We are at Euros, which is the result we wanted, but now we must not commit the errors of the past,” Sacchi said.
“We must not think we are phenomenons otherwise we’ll fall to the ground again. They gave their all and given the circumstances this is enough for me. I would add that if we had lost, this group of players and this coach would not have been blamed. Luciano Spalleti has just arrived and we must let him work. He also needs to know the environment and the footballers.
“This qualification must be the starting point. If we want to become leaders, we need to change many things and I’m not talking about tactics. We are behind the other main national teams in Europe. Italy only have one federal centre, France has 16 and even Switzerland beats us with three.”
The Italian team lost out on top spot in the qualifiers to England who finished with an impressive 20 points in eight matches.
Italy are the current defending champions. They won the last edition of the tournament (Euro 2020).
They also won the Euros in 1968 when they hosted the tournament.
The team failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
