Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has heaped praise on Vinicius Junior and insists the exciting winger is the “future” of the club.
Vinicius has been involved in all three of Real’s 2019-20 La Liga games, although he’s only started once, and it’s understood he asked Zidane for more playing time after returning from the international break.
The 19-year-old, who joined from Brazilian side Flamengo for a reported 46million euros in the summer of 2017, didn’t make his debut until last season.
He made 18 league appearances last term and is eager to establish himself as a key figure at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Zidane has offered hope that he can force his way into the starting XI on a more regular basis over the course of the campaign.
The Frenchman insists he can “count on” Vinicius and has even suggested that the Brazil international could be the “future” of the Spanish giants.
Zidane said: “I have 23 players and I have to count on everyone. “Vinicius is 18 years old and is the future of Madrid, surely. But each player takes time and he is in the process of doing things well. “Sometimes he will not play, of course, because he will play in others and will be in the starting eleven. Stop saying that I do not count on Vinicius. I do count on him.”
The forward, who was targeted by Arsenal over the summer, could be handed the chance to prove his worth when Real look to bounce back from successive draws at home to Levante on Saturday.
