Reports in Spain claim Barcelona are set to enter negotiations with goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen over a new deal at the club. The 27-year-old has been with the Catalans since the summer of 2014 and is under contract until 2022 but it seems as though Barca want to tie him down to a longer deal.
Spanish outlet Marca are suggesting that the Nou Camp giants want to ensure that he remains with them and is not the subject of a big-money bid as his contract nears its conclusion. The Germany international earned his move to Barca after impressing in the Bundesliga with Borussia Monchengladbach but it was a frustrating first couple of years in Spain.
Injury saw him sidelined for a while and he then fell behind Claudio Bravo in the pecking order, playing only in domestic cup competitions and the Champions League in his first season.
It was similar story in 2015-2016 as Ter Stegen was handed just seven league starts and 26 in total.
He eventually emerged as first-choice and has now made 200 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona and eight this season as they sit second in the La Liga table.
The talented shot-stopper was signed for just £10.8million five years ago but would command a much higher fee in today’s market but, with 84 clean sheets on his record, Barca want to ensure he stays with the club for many more years.
It has been suggested that the player is happy in his present surroundings and is open to extending his deal with Ernesto Valverde’s side.
