Arsenal are ready to make a move for Mainz defender Jean-Philippe Gbamin this summer, but the transfer fee could be a sticking point.
The Gunners were heavily linked with a move for the 23-year-old last summer, but Mainz managed to fight off their interest and the player has gone on to shine in the Bundesliga.

Arsenal have a poor defensive record under the leadership of Unai Emery, conceding 26 on their travels so far this season, and the Spaniard is keen to address the situation.
Reports are rife that a fresh attempt to sign Gbamin will be made in the summer but Mainz will be holding out for a fee of £40million if they are to consider cashing in on their key defender.
That would blow Emery’s budget for the summer after it was claimed he will only have £45million to spend, so it remains to be seen if a deal can happen.
Gbamin joined Mainz from Ligue 1 outfit Lens back in 2016 and they will be very reluctant to sell after he became a key member of the team.
