Moses Simon wil miss the rest of the campaign after sustaining an injury in Nigeria’s 2-0 friendly defeat to Mali on Tuesday night.
Simon was stretchered off the pitch around the half hour mark after colliding with the Malian goalkeper.
The winger was rushed to the hospital following the incident.

His Ligue 1 club, Nantes have now confirmed the player will not play again this season.
“Moses Simon was injured yesterday against Mali. Our Nigerian striker suffers from a broken fibula which means the end of the season,” the club said in a statement.
“FC Nantes is already keen to provide its full support to its attacker and wishes him a speedy recovery.”
The 28-year-old could also miss Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin in June.

I don’t wish any of our players bad, I wish him Speedy Recovery. but in all honesty this is for the best.
In Nigeria things are done so wrong that it is only an injury that allows the right personel take thier chance. Believe me this injury to Moses Simon is a blessing in disguise for Nigeria anyway. I will get attacked bring it on. But deep down I know this paves a way for a better player to take the place of Simon for the crucial Qualifiers in June.
I thought am the only one thinking this way this guy Moses Simon has added nothing to this team and he is always on team sheet cannot dribble well no good crosses no team play just plait hair and be running up and down the pitch with no direction I pray a better player takes his place I wish him quick recovery but he is one of the worst super eagles players that needs to be dropped
But the very same player won close to 3 MOM in most matches will play in afcon
Nigerians forget so easily, any slightest rough match, you’ll just rule off your stars. Is there any better dribbler in our Super Eagles currently than Simon. I don’t know what people are even talking about? This young man has always been consistent since many years ago even getting better!
Ugo and Obaly, sure we all have our player preferences. But you’ll observe that despite the criticism and no matter the number of players invited, players like Iwobi and Simon almost always make the starting 11, if they’re in camp, under all the coaches.
I want to ask, who are these capable replacements for Simon? With the same level of experience, intelligence, and work rate? Except for occasional off days, Simon is a solid, solid player that can dictate the pace and outcome of a match.
Like Ololo said, I think we’re seriously going to miss Simon in the South Africa WCQ match. Except he’s fully recovered in May when the season ends to play in the June/July games.
@kel here you go, Tella, Lookman, Boniface, can all play that Role. Chukuweze if he carries on the form he shows before the International Break then why not. We also Have Orban as well all these players are capable. Look at Boniface he plays that Role for Leverkusen and has about 10 assists this season from Exactly Moses Simon position. Moses Simon presence in the team is stopping the coach from trying many deadly combinations.i.e. below
Boniface Osimhen Lookman
Boniface Osimhen Tella
Boniface Osimhen Orban
Lookman Osimhen Iheanacho
If Chukwueze hits form
Chukwueze Osimhen lookman
Boniface Osimhen Chukwueze.
I can go on and on even if we try
Boniface Awoniyi Lookman the team is still formidible.
Why cant NFF go and encourage Olise to switch then we can even have…
Olise Osimhen Boniface
We have meny players why keep inviting players like Moses Simon who are just not the Factor We need He is Average man a player who can only manage 4 goals and 2 assist all season for club Season in Season out will come and start beeing regarded as a key player in SE playing for Caps. then we ask ourself why we seem average these days
Many options Moses Simon is average he is a player if we are down in a game and he comes in are you honestly upbeat by his presence? what about if a player like Boniface comes in?????…
Then Nathan tella who is doing admirably why is he benched… I mean Guys let us face it you saw the best of Moses Simon in AFCON that is really what he is capable off.
Orban, who has never laced boots for the Super Eagles and Tella that was utterly shambolic against Zimbabwe are the ones some people prefer to a tested, consistent national team player like Simon. While I am not a Simon fan, he is far better in Eagles colors than many players. This is why he always gets invited and selected. His off-the-ball work rate is second to none, and he gives us balance and resilience in the 3-4-3. His assistance with Lookman vs Angola was a joy to behold.
@Alex07 If we are to take our football to the next level Players like Omeruo, Moses Simon, Ahmed Musa Jamilu Collins Et al need to be done away with in SE i order to really capitalize and Maximize use of our Golden Generation. These players will age and we should start gelling the best and Building team Cohesion NOW!!! all these mediocre players wearing armband purely because of seniority and Caps even if they have past thier sell by date and are Crap must STOP!.. This Mentality is Killing Super Eagles!!!!! and I told you people When We rank 80 in WOrld Football you people’s Damn Eyes will clear..
What Business does Omeruo have wearing the Armband When Ndidi is there can he lace Ndidi’s boots at Club Level???…. nawa oo
None of the players you mentioned aside Osimhen is better than Moses Simon.
Simon is a quality player,he’s reliable,quick,energetic,nimble-footed.His experience has bailed us out many times, and for sure he’ll be missed against difficult opponent South Africa because he’s a huge player, one of our best.
@Ugo would you go into a fierce battle with players who are untested or ones that are proven?
@Greenturf Please don’t Disrespect Victor Boniface he is a special talent and if you must know he is on the same Level as Victor Osimhen and you know what Boniface may be even better than Osimhen, don’t believe me you will see for yourself.
Now Tella is better than Simon, Awoniyi is better than Simon, Orban Is better than Simon, Lookman is better than Simon (Boniface is also better than Lookman), If we get Olise he too is better than Simon, and like I said if Chukuweze regains form and gives Ac Milan coach faith in him they will mould him into a more formidable player than Simon too.. SO you see the point I have made is that. We have seen the best of Simon now we have potentials that fare better than anything Simon should at thier age and would make more sense to build the new Super Eagles around such players than keep flogging a dead horse like Simon that is past his prime if Simon can not take his game to the next level now that he is approaching 29 then he is not what we need when we have players like I have just mentioned. this is the mentality we should have
Look if we have no better options then cool by all means let Simon Moses and Ahmed Musa play until they are 200years old but we do and we should appreciate the talent we have now and how do we do that reward them with Super Eagles places and showcase them to the world. Nigeria is doing ourselves no good by sticking with players that Do NOt have it in them to lift a trophy.
Let US GEL OUR TOP TALENTS NOW AND CREATE A FORMIDIBLE TEAM AND DO AWAY WITH SENTIMENTS, SENTIMENTS WILL NOT BRING US TROPHIES ONLY HEART BREAK
And like @Ololo clearly stated below Ejuke too must be given a chance he is better tan Simon If Emma Dennis keeps playing like he is and Regaining his stride slowly then Emma Dennis is better than Moses Simon. Nigeria Have many players to be using than to be sticking to players like Moses Simon Who refuse to take thier game to the next level all they know is to knack Eba after every game Mtcheeew!!!
This Ugo IWUNZE,I have said it here times without number that you are good at selling tramadol n mkpuru miri more than watching or analysing the round leather game…
Moses simon was one of our best performer at the just concluded afcon…
He won two man of the match awards…
Came out with over two assists(one of which was the assist to lookman s goal against angola…
And he had the most dribbles in our team…so wtf are you saying?
@MONKEY POST your own be say Peseiro has become your new Rohr and Moses Simon has become your new AHmed Musa. Were you not the same person advocating for not giving Osimhen and Awoniyi and Chance, that we should let Ighalo play until he is 100years old?.. Banana head you thing say I get your time ODE!
We are definitely going to miss Simon..
Obviously he is missing the game against south Africa and I doubt we have capable replacement.
I won’t deny, I’m scared for our next game
Tella, Lookman, Boniface, can all play that Role. Chukuweze if he carries on the form he shows before the International Break then why not. We also Have Orban as well all these players are capable. MTCHEEEEEW!!!!!
Chukwueze has been extremely poor for the Super Eagles for a long time. He should not even be invited to the national team.
Awoniyi too
@Greenturf the same Awoniyi that scoree one of the best Technical Goals For SE in 2023 that goal against Sao Tome Princip?? That Awoniyi. Infact was that not his last Game for SE?. How has he been poor when he gives his all when called upon and the competition with Osimhen is even bringing the best out if him and will continue to..
Yet you are willing to overlook this competition with Osimhen which is good for SE to accommodate finished Simon???
Lol I have heard it all hahahhaa I laugh in Chinese kkkkk lol
Which Chukwueze! Is it the one that has failed to grow in Eagles and AC Milan. Even at AC Milan , he is considered the biggest flop.
Moses is a team player that complement his attacking instinct with defensive duties. He is not like Iwobi or Chukwueze, who prefers to being influential on social media to national teams.
Get well soon, Simon.
You are so right.
The guy is injured, broke his ankle playing for the nation, probably going under the knife, out for the season, and long time out and will go through the painful and isolated rehabilitation phrase, and all some people can say at this time is “ This is blessing in disguise “ do you guys have heart at all? must you talk so people can know you are internet warriors? . At least the guy is doing something for his country , so he is some way useful and you ? what have you done ? apart from knowing it all?
Thank God y’all opinions are only valid in your bedrooms.
Thats eeh!
In fact, I dey fear for the kind mind most people have even at a time when the guy need our prayers and support.
May God have mercy abeg.
Wishing you a very speedy recovery to fitness Simon. We are solidly behind you.
I think one player Many people have forgotten about who can replace Simon is ejuke in Belgium..
I don’t trust chukwueze but I hope he starts firing goals and assist in Italy and can also be a capable replacement but we must look for other options..
Lookman is the only outstanding winger we have at the moment but it is time we look for other options especially players with super eagles experience and can integrate well with the team in a short time frame and that is where ejuke falls in..
Tella and basuiru are other options and we sometimes forget that iwobi can also Play in the wings.. these are why trying new players in friendly games are important but tella and basuiru were stuck in the bench for the two games like we were playing a tournament
What about Marcus Abraham, Anayo Iwuala and Funsho Bamgboye? These are great wingers.
@Ololo you are right Ejuke is better than Moses simon too.
CAF Ref played blind to this injury that should have been a penalty as consolation but as usual he doesn’t care about the Black Skin country.
Penalty kicks have now become a consolation prize for injuries sustained from a fair challenge in an opponent’s box….LMAOoo.
I never knew football rules have changed.
Whatever some of you people smoke before rushing to CsN to type comments beats imagination….LMAOoo

Wetin be your problem? Why can’t this Animal behave himself?? Must you talk on something that doesn’t concern you??? You sickness big o busy body carry your Yeye commot here jare disgusting entity!!!
Hahahaha…..it is the goat that raised a daft fool like you this is an animal.
It’s even more disgusting of you to think millions of people watched the same match and saw no legitimate penalty claim in Simon clattering against Mali GK after overruning the ball, thereby getting himself injured…..but only a mentally disabled fool like you saw a phantom penalty where there was none and want to start whipping dirty racial and CAF-bias sentiments up. Take your stupidity elsewhere pls.
Useless illiterate….LMAOoo
Every problem in life always has to do with skin colour….LMAOoo.
Come and shoot me because I’m commenting on a public forum which you do not own na.
Iberibe…! Anuohia..!
It was not a penalty.
Moses Simon will be missed. He is a good winger
