Mohamed Salah has expressed sadness following Liverpool’s failure to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
The Reds’ hopes of finishing in the top-four ended after Manchester United thrashed Chelsea 4-1 in Thursday’s Premier League clash at Old Trafford.
The win took United to third position, six points clear of Liverpool with one game left to play.
Casemiro and Anthony Martial scored to give United a 2-0 first half lead before Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford also got on the score sheet in the second half .
On loan forward Joao Felix got a consolation goal for Chelsea late in the game.
Reacting to Chelsea’s loss to United, Salah said there is no excuse for Liverpool not qualifying for the Champions League.
“I’m totally devastated. There’s absolutely no excuse for this. We had everything we needed to make it to next year’s Champions League and we failed.
“We are Liverpool and qualifying to the competition is the bare minimum. I am sorry but it’s too soon for an uplifting or optimistic post. We let you and ourselves down.“
Salah and his Liverpool teammates will end the season at relegation Southampton while United will welcome Fulham at Old Trafford.
