Ogenyi Onazi says he is still relevant to the Super Eagles despite criticisms over his inclusion in the team’s standby list for the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs against Ghana.
The 29-year-old last played for the Super Eagles in 2018 under former handler Gernot Rohr.
Interim technical adviser Augustine Eguavoen has also been criticised for Onazi’s inclusion in the squad, but the midfielder insisted he still have a role to play in the team
“Personally, I don’t care about what people say. I’m still on the reserve list, not yet on the main list, so we can’t tell what’s going to happen,” the former Lazio player told ESPN.

Onazi further said he was not surprised to be included in the squad and would be ready if needed.
He added: “It’s not a surprise to me, because I’m still playing and I’m ready to play anytime. When it comes to the national team, I’m always at the service of the nation, to always give my best for the country.
“Yes, it’s been a while since I was in the national team, but when we talk about this very game — home and away, that will take us to the World Cup [it’s very important].
“When I got a call from the coach, he told me how important it is, and I also know how important it is. We need the experience to tackle this game. It’s not a game of saying ‘where do you play’ or ‘where do you come from’ or whatever you’re doing.”

I have said it before and I will say it again..
Even if the experience/Services of MIKEL OBI is needed just to get pass GHANA, then the coach can go ahead to recall him.
Just do whatever it is to win this game. No shame in it atall
All these newbies don’t have that experience to face a tough team like Ghana..
You lack knowledge of Footballing matters.. and clearly started watching football recently.. Was it not the same Onazi that could not even keep up in the game against England in the World Cup 2018 warm up in Wembly stadium in London??.. @MONKEY POST my friend go and Sit down jare!!!!
Mind you he has regressed even further from there hence he is not even coping in a second division team in Turkey. @MONKEY POST you have been officially declared deluded hehehe!!!
Lazy journalism from CSN, how many times will they repeat this same old news under different caption? Go out there and source for news, stop looking for cheap ways to draw traffic
Your juju and connection is working o.
Your connections are working. Your renewed affiliation with the SE will help your club career, maybe land you in a super league, but don’t be too ambitious. It’s highly unlikely you’d ever land in the SE first team again.
Even the Gods of the land have rejected onazi no way no how you will play for eagles no matter how connected ur with the coach instead he will lose his job
Because every Nigerians know that the power is not there talk less of experience
You have experience u keep getting sack in every club u played for
Look at ur self playing in Saudi division 2
LMFAO! Una no go kill person here o..
Which one be the gods of the land have rejected ONAZI..
LMFAO! You are wicked o!!
Why the hate?, How did the gods enter this matter?, His inclusion bus puzzling but since that’s what the coach wants it’s enough
It is not what is good for Nigeria. The question every Nigerian is asking today is, how much this guy paid-to-play? How much he bribed them with under-the-table? Onezi have been around enough to understand the intrigues and the Nigeria knack for free money to miss his chance in that regard. He is rich enough to bribe and corrupt his ways to the top of the larder. To exhume a dead man, require deep pocket.
I don’t blame you Onazi. Continue. However,
If Onazi bribed his way in then Ighalo also did the same thing.
Ighalo and Onazi are minus in that team.
You people lied to us that their experiences were meant a lot for Nigeria but wait a minute, what did Ighalo do against Argentina?
Amaju brought Ighalo back into the team because of his money not because of his experience or his exposure period.
Onazi and Ighalo will disgrace themselves soon. Shebi we saw Ighalo against Cape Verde in Lagos abi? No wahala.
The only thing that will pain me most is if the coaching crew fails to qualify for the World Cup. That will be a huge disaster.
Ighalo and Onazi can not run, can not fight for the team anymore on the pitch while Dessers and Nwobodo that are still in the prime were overlooked. This is very ridiculous kę.
Ndidi might be injured now and I am pretty sure that he’s not 100% fit for the world cup qualifiers against Ghana.
We have a perfect replacement for him which is Nwobodo but to my surprise, the guy wasn’t included.
Bonke will cause more problems if he play against Ghana. He can get a straight red card at any time. This is why am not his fan. He’s too rough.
Coach Eguavoen is fumbling around now. He have disappointed himself not me. His selections makes me believe that I should limit my expectation. If we win against Ghana I will be super happy but still, not convinced that he has selected the right players.
Only Nigerians can beat Nigeria against Ghana because Ghana have lost it before now. New coaching crew, Black Stars did not play good football recently and also at the Afcon in Cameroon.
If Super Eagles can not beat the Black stars of Ghana in Ghana at least 3:0 then we don’t have business in Qatar period. God bless Nigeria!!!
Ighalo, Akpeyi and Onazi? Kai, mba. Our own have wasted another three slots for nothing. This is very embarrassing.
Edoman, just be prayerful ooo because if Nigeria don’t qualify for the in Qatar Chai, I will blame you for this Edoman.
Onazi Bros pack well u be passed ur prime allow others to play n enjoy same fame u once enjoyed n stop decieving yourself that u r still relevant,I don’t know y some people are so greedy n wicked u have played for d national team 8 yrs ago n at d moment there are loads of young stars available in that position rather than retire and allow them to shine u r still bribing ur way just to dim there light hmmmmm it’s well
