Former Nigerian international Obafemi Martins has disclosed that he’s faster than Arjen Robben and Ronaldo De Lima.
Martins, who is known for his pace at Inter Milan, told ESPN that his pace can’t be matched by the duo during his playing days as a footballer.
“I’m faster than Robben, but he’s probably better with the ball. Did you forget about me? Wow. I’m faster than Ronaldo (De Lima); even he knows that.

“There’s no player on this list faster than me. Go back to Inter Milan and ask about me. No way,” Obafemi Martins smirked.
Obafemi Martins began his professional career with Italian lower division side Reggiana. In 2001, he joined Serie A giants Inter Milan, where he played for five years before switching to the Premier League with Newcastle United.
He spent three seasons with the Magpies, registering 35 goals and 10 assists in 104 appearances.

Martins is faster than Robben. But Robben was better on the ball. Once the ball gets on that left foot, defenders are helpless.
As for Ronaldo Da Lima, it’s tough to call. He’s not nicknamed EL FENOMENO for nothing. He combines incredible pace with stunning skills.
But Martins too was a speedstar. Ridiculous speed.
In the end, I’ll give it to Martins. He’s one of the fastest strikers I’ve ever seen. He was faster than Robben and Ronaldo Da Lima, but they were better ballers and more clinical. And that’s the regret I have have for Matins. With his pace, he should have produced a lot more end product in his career.
Yes o weapon of mass destruction speed 19 at PS1.
Any thing oba talk dey right..dude was very fast back then both on and of ball…both in the se jersey and club jersey…I remember that his fa cup goal with abi na with newcastle or so….. It was the winner I think so….
Martins was explosive. Sadly he never really maximized his full potentials in Nigeria’s colors.
And it’s not just – all of that generation largely due to NFF maladministration, where the officials were more concerned about personal financial gains than national glory.
The record below of the number of Nigerians who have won AFPOTY shows the SE golden era was 1993 – 1999 (An era handled by Westerhof & Bonfrere).
– Rashidi Yekini 1993
– Emmanuel Amuneke 1994
– Kanu Nwankwo 1996
– Victor Ikpeba 1997
– Kanu Nwankwo 1999
– Victor Osimhen 2023
– Ademola Lookman 2024
And now with back-to-back wins, it appears we have another golden generation. That’s why it would be tragic to miss out on WC 2026 cos I feel this golden generation has the potential to reach the semis.
Some countries like Ghana has won it only once (Abedi 1992), even Caneroun just 3 times and South Africa not even once.
And here’s a country that has dominated Africa’s best players roll call with an underwhelming performance in WCQ.
Let’s get a new world class coach so we won’t miss the kind of opportunity we had with Martins. Osimhen, Lookman & co can do it this time around with a world class coach (Dutch or German).
Kel must it be dutch or German? What about an Indian coach?
Monkey Post, you no serious o. Indian is not bad either, even Pakistani. All join. Your Rohr nah which nationality?
Lol. Okay I see what you did there..lol.

Indian coach ke? Do you want SE camp to be smelling of garlic and curry?
Looool, I love Indian people, especially their women. But I prefer an Azerbaijani coach for the SE.
You know Azerbaijan is my adopted country, since Nigeria is falling my hand.
Azerbaijan to the world!
