Victor Boniface has expressed his disappointment not being shortlisted for the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award.
Despite helping Bayer Leverkusen to land a first-ever Bundesliga title and also winning the DFB-Pokal, Boniface was not considered for selection.
However, his Super Eagles teammates Ademola Lookman and William Troost-Ekong made the shortlist.
Speaking in an interview with Nigerian journalist Oluwashina Okeleji, Boniface argued that if it is based on his performance last season he deserved to be shortlisted.
“Of course I’m disappointed not being shortlisted. If it’s what I did last season I should be disappointed but I don’t stress about it ,” he said.
When asked who he will pick if given the opportunity, he replied:“If I’m to pick the winner it would be Lookman 100 percent and if I were there I will pick myself.”
On whether there is the possibility of another team going unbeaten in the Bundesliga, he said:”I don’t know if we would ever see a team go unbeaten in the Bundesliga again, I can’t see the future but I hope not.”
Boniface was in action for the Super Eagles in Thursday’s AFCON 2025 qualifiers against Benin Republic which ended 1-1.
