Atalanta’s Josip Ilicic says Roma made an approach for him in January but decided against a mid-season move. The Slovenian joined La Dea from Fiorentina in 2017 and has impressed during his spell in Bergamo, netting 17 times in 44 outings.
Despite being 31, the playmaker shows no signs of slowing down and his performances earned him mid-season interest from Roma.

However, Ilicic decided against the upheaval of swapping clubs halfway through the season, especially as he is happy at Atalanta. That does not mean he will not look for a transfer in the summer though and appeared rather coy on his future plans when quizzed on the potential of a move away. “These are things that can always happen to us players: at any time can get an offer and Roma that wanted me right away,” he said. “In the end, accepting or not depends on how you feel in a society: I, as I have always said, I am very happy with Atalanta. “As a player, I cannot know what will happen, but for now I’m at Atalanta. I want to finish the season well, give my best for this team and then we’ll see.”
