Former Nigerian forward, Victor Ikpeba has warned Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen against leaving Napoli for any top clubs in Europe next summer.
Recall that the Nigeria international scored in Napoli’s 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League round of 16 to take his tally for the 2022/23 season to 20 goals.
With a £100million transfer fee placed on Osimhen, the Atlanta Olympic gold medalist however, stated that it will be difficult for top clubs in Europe to spend such amount on an African player.
He also warned him from joining Chelsea regardless of the amount.
“I don’t really know if a Premier League club or even Real Madrid will want to spend £100million for an African player, because Victor Osimhen is worth more than that.
“But the decision is left to him and his team, whether it’s Chelsea, Liverpool or Man United, when the offer comes to him, it boils down to the player and his team to decide where to go.”
“Let’s also not forget that Romelu Lukaku is on loan and Chelsea is currently a toxic environment. For me he should just focus on the now and forget about where he wants to go to next season because he is really doing well at Napoli and the season is still far.”

Mr Ikpeba, your era is now in the past don’t start bringing your yesterday to analyze today or what will happen tomorrow. How can you say you don’t know if any club will be ready to spend $100 million on an African player? you are not supposed to be putting such statements out in the public , it is like telling all clubsides in Europe not to pay such an amount for any African player, such statements should not be coming from us haba. Retired players like you are supposed to be the ones that should be announcing to the whole World that African players have arrived and that the likes of Osimhen is worth more than $100 million.
@frank well said. Who sought for his defeatist advice? No one.
Oh come on, he did say Victor is worth more than that. This tells you exactly how he values Victor. Let’s think critically instead of just being ready to attack people.
He’s been there and he understands how these european clubs think and do business. It wasnt long ago that these european pundits were questioning why Napoli would pay 70 million for this same Osimhen so he does have a point
I share your point of view Mr Victor Ikpeba…I think Osimhen should wait a little bit, nobody say he can’t win the championshs league with Napoli.
Try and read the post again he did mentioned that osimhen worth more than that
Take it or leave it Victor Ikpeba is well known in the footballing World especially in Europe where he played for many years, so his opinion in matters concerning young African players in Europe is very very weighty. And as such i still maintain it was a wrong statement to make by a well respected former international of his stature. We should not be under any illusion that complete sports is just a local paper so long as it is on the internet it seizes to be a local paper because it can be seen and read all over the World.
They keep warning osimhen but they fail to realize that osimhen always moves when the ovation is highest……They warned osimhen not to leave Charleroi, that he should stay another season and try to replicate what he did in his first season but Osimhen moved on and he did well……..They warned osimhen not to leave lille, that he should remain in France and try to consolidate on his first and best season but Osimhen moved to Napoli and he is breaking records there now……. unfortunately his first two seasons in Napoli was distrupted by injuries and illness and he could not really hit the group running coupled with the refusal of Napoli’s old order players to accept him as a focal point he still managed double figures of goals in both seasons……This season he has been relatively fit for longer periods and Napoli has cleared out it’s old order and the new order has made Osimhen it’s focal point…… Advisers are here again with warning…… Osimhen has never stayed too long in any club since he arrived Europe and Movement has always favoured him so why wishing him to remain stagnant now?…….Most of this So called ex internationals especially the so called golden generation are just scared by this new generation of players……they don’t want to be outdone by this new generation……They are part of the reason most Nigerian players go to dead leagues because some current players seek advice from this ex internationals who will only tell them their limitations instead of inspiring them to achieve greater heights…….Ikpeba is a typical example of what am trying to say here……How can you make such a careless statement on the internet?……He now stylishly used the word ” he is worth more than that”……..If Osimhen is truly worth more than that then Ikpeba of all people should know that the white man will not blink an eye before investing the Money on him regardless of his origin or race because the white man is not sentimental like we Africans….. Moreover osimhen is already Africa’s most expensive player with over 70 million Euros spent on him already…… Ikpeba should just keep mute if he doesn’t have something reasonable to say……Let Ikpeba keep praying for osimhen to fail so that he can jump out and say I told him but he refused to listen…….All I know is that osimhen is moving higher and he will break every record that is available to break in Africa and world football.
