Former Three Lions of England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has claimed Newcastle United would be taking “a massive risk” by signing Odion Ighalo.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Robinson, a former Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United goalkeeper said Ighalo is “unreliable” and urged the Magpies to look elsewhere.
According to Sky Sports (24 December), Ighalo, who currently plays for Saudi Arabia outfit Al Shabab, is one of a number of strikers being considered by Newcastle’s recruitment team this month.
It is said that the former Manchester United and Watford striker would seriously consider a move to St. James’ Park.
Eddie Howe’s side are currently without their top goalscorer Callum Wilson after he suffered an injury in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United last month.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Ighalo’s credentials, Robinson said: “I think he’d be a massive risk.
“He is unreliable and I don’t think Newcastle are in a position where they can take risks.
“Financially, they are in a position where they can go and get a top quality striker who is less of a risk than he is.
“It’s definitely a position they need to address though given that Wilson is out. To stay up they’ll need a striker to be scoring regularly.
“I just don’t think Ighalo is the player they are looking for.”
Ighalo has scored 11 goals in 15 appearances across all competitions this season.
He has 18 months left on his contract with Al Shabab.

Paul Robinson you hate Ighalo. You’re envious of his wealth. You’re also envoius of his fame
Make Robinson go find joko somewhere sit down. In 36 league matches he played in, Robinson could only keep 8 clean sheets, while he also conceded about 500 league goals of his career. Such a person isn’t the one to talk.
Thank u jareeh, ighalo will go there and do better bcus he has focuses…after d nations cup he will will for himself
Na wa o, a player that scored 11 goals in 15 appearances is unreliable. Abi na the one wey go score 2 in 18 appearanced go come reliable?

As usual Nigerians will attack the messenger and abandon the message……. Football and sentiment can never go together and that is the reason we are where we are today.,…. Rhor was doing well until he allowed the Nigerian sentiment enter into his way of doing things……Back to the topic…….An average EPL strikers’ duty is not just to score…….An EPL striker has to hold up play, run in behind defence, run into spaces, take away players with him by running into spaces, A threat in the air,…….All this quality has left Ighalo and you think a struggling team who needs results ASAP will risk it on Ighalo…….The most important ingredient a player needs now in the EPL is pace and Ighalo doesn’t have it again……The Truth is bitter but it must be said.
Thanks for your honest response. A lot of our citizens like deceits and prefer to be lied to than hearing the truth.
Lol…you can say whatever you like man. We are Nigerians just like Ighalo and it’s okay to be sentimental in this kind of situation.
If you have those qualities and you can’t score goal are you then the needed striker ?…Ighalo have played 15 games with 11 goals , even in Nigeria league you can’t achieve that !!..Ighalo is the best bet they can get at the moment and he will deliver as far scoring goals is concern , let the rest have the qualities you stated above and leave the goal scoring for him !!
All hope is not lost, there are still Nigerians who speak the truth devoid of sentiments. Thank You my brother.
We all love Ighalo but age is catching up with him.
Oga abeg go sit down with all your qualities. The major and most important duty of a striker anywhere in the world is to score goals.. Simple!!!
Let’s see him play at nation’s cup first before assessing him
Is Ighalo older than cavani?is Ighalo older than moutinho?is Ighalo older than zlatan? Hate and very shallow speech
So..what kind of striker do u want for struggling Newcastle United? Like Haaland abi? Or Lewandowski? May be Chiesa or Immobile lol! With Alain-Maximman doing the dirty works, Ighalo will perform for them at least to save them from relegation first. No established striker can move to Newcastle now trust me. If a club like Man Utd can go for him when they were having Injury crises, why not Newcastle?
@Akp
It’s good to know we still have honest people like you around. Someone was even saying it’s OK to be sentimental because we are Nigerians and Ighalo is a Nigerian… Shameful
He has scored 11 goals in 15 appearances across all competitions this season in SAUDI PRO LEAGUE and we all saw Ighalo in our last match against Cape Verde, Ighalo is no longer the same! Age is catching up on him! But some people here still think he’s a Ronaldo that he has never been.
You people should continue bashing Paul Robinson for saying the obvious since y’all are allergic to TRUTH. That doesn’t mean Paul Robinson hates Ighalo
Shut up abe they Don bribe you join us Ibrahimovic older than ighalo
Shut up idiot that is why we will always remain backwards is because of Abokis Like u @Abdul
Paul Robinson thank you. We all know Ighalo is not world class it is only in a backyard jungle like Nigeria that he us important even when we have far better than him. Zoo Nation run by Aboki fools
@Ugo Iwunze, i understand your frustrations and can visibly see your passion for a greater Nigeria but making comments based on tribalism and hate can not be the way. Dr Martin Luther King once stated ” You can not overcome darkness with darkness, only light can do that. You can not overcome hate with hate, only love can do that”.
We live in a retrogressive society but true progressives must push for positive change without losing themselves in the process.
One Love !
Am so ashamed that you are being tribalistic because someone is trying to make his opinion count like Paul Robinson!
No one is even saying Ighalo is some Ronaldo or world class..
And Paul Robinson didnt say Ighalo is not good. He is only saying the club can’t rely on him to saved them from relegation..
@MONKEY POST Nigeria is being tribalistic by suffering us with Quota system and the constant presence of Musa as Captain. I have said it until we get rid of Musa this team continue to derail because you can not go to war with World class being lead my mediocre it is just not possible. Musa captaincy Is not meritted and the reason this team have a mediocre energy around it. The minute justice Is served blessings will be fall this team again from above. You want mediocre abi. Don’t worry You will get it. Give the Armband to the most deserving and the team will be blessed simple. I know what I am saying I know it. Explain this Musa case to me what has he achieved in his club since the last SE matches to date.
There you go! Mr OP.. LMAO! I know you will call out Musa, even when the thread or conversation isn’t about him….
So now you being tribalistic on a forumite has helped solve the tribalism or quota system Nigeria is suffering from or it has just fuelled it?
Oga please I tend to run away(avoid) from tribalistic people when I see them and you have just given me reason why I should be running from you..
