Former Super Eagles coach Finidi George has said is target is to help Rivers United become a dominant force in Nigerian and African football.
Following his exit as Super Eagles head coach, Finidi was appointed new head coach of Rivers United.
Looking ahead of the new challenge before him after his short stint in charge of the Super Eagles, the former winger said he joined Rivers United because he was approached, and felt at the
moment the club is one of the biggest in Nigeria and West Africa.
“I think it’s a new chapter for me, and I like the
challenge. I want to help the club grow and become a dominant force in Nigerian and African football,” he told SportsBoom in an exclusive interview.
“I’m happy with the project the club is looking at, and I see a lot of potential for growth and success. The vision of the club aligns with my
own ambitions, and I believe we can achieve great things together.
“I’m excited about the project ahead,” he said, his.We have a talented squad, and I believe we can achieve great things together. My philosophy is to play attractive, attacking football that will excite the fans and bring success to the club.”
The former Ajax winger revealed that the club has been on a series of recruitment plans just to stay in better shape ahead of the forthcoming 2024/2025 season.
He added that the Port-Harcourt-based club has signed about 10 players and since they aren’t playing on the continent, their focus is mainly on
earning a top three finish next season.
