Alex Iwobi has said he tried to convince Eberechi Eze to feature for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Three Lions coach Gareth Southgate handed Eze a call-up ahead of their Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia this month.
The 24-year-old has been rewarded for his fine form in the Premier League last season scoring 10 goals and made four assists.
In May 2021, Eze was called up to the senior England squad for the first time, as part of England’s 33-man provisional squad for Euro 2020 but got injured during training.
Speaking ahead of the Super Eagles 2023 AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone, Iwobi however said he wish him all the best with the Three Lions.
“I spoke to Ebere Eze to try and come but then obviously he’s never had the opportunity to come but I wish him all the best with England as well,” Iwobi said on Brila FM.
The Everton star however expressed confidence that Chuba Akpom will get his chance with the Super Eagles.
The former Arsenal striker finished as top scorer last season in the Championship with 28 goals from 38 appearances.
“That’s up to the coach in his selection unfortunately it’s very difficult because of the strikers we have who are on form.
“I’m sure hopefully he will get a chance because he’s had a great season but it’s very difficult for the coach to pick strikers to come. He just has to be patience I’m sure he’ll get his chance.”

Is NFF sellable? Obvious answer is NO…Football administration in Nigeria and most African countries is a big talk by most sport Pundits and analyst. These kids listen to most of these sport analyst on the screen.
Iwobi you tried jare because you can force a horse into a river but you can not force it to drink…….Will you force the coaches to select EZe ahead of the useless players we keep accumulating worthless national team caps for?…..Eze never rejected Nigeria, rather it is Nigeria who rejected Eze when he needed us the most……Eze got his mojo back when he was on loan at Millwall from QPR after been released by Arsenal as a school boy and he was a joy to watch that season because the coach moved him back into Midfield and it was like taking fish back into water……After that season QPR recalled him and handed him a first team starting shirt…..Still after that season Eze somehow found himself in the Super Eagles camp as one of the invited players for a training camp and friendly games….Eze set the super Eagles camp on fire and many observers including Rhor himself marveled at his ability on the ball…..Eze played an unofficial game for the Super Eagles and he made a huge difference…… Subsequently Rhor ignored Eze and stock to his usual tired legs in Midfield as instructed by the corrupt NFF and the business men around him that call themselves assistant coaches….. Eze went back to QPR and was waiting to get at least a call up but it never came after more than 7 international windows of which the world cup 2018 even came and gone…….That time was when Eze played his best football in my opinion and I wonder why nobody in that super Eagles camp could notice anything in him……Eze was virtually unplayable and he immediately started catching the eyes of the world as he dominated Midfield players in the championship with ease…… After two seasons at QPR it was obvious to all that the young Eze was way above the championship and then Southgate was already aware of his talent……. Southgate dangled a u21 cap with England at Eze and he rightly grabbed it with both hand because he was starved of international football and that was his most visible opportunity ……. That was when the NFF and Rhor started fooling themselves around in the UK snapping pics with Eze and raising Eze’s profile in the Eyes of his new Groom (England)…….Eze used their foolishness to his advantage by showing to the whole World that Nigeria is on its knees begging him and Nigeria never rejected him as many where whispering in the English football circles……..Fast forward to 2023 Eze finally got his life long wish……. ANYONE WHO WISHES EZE BAD IS WORSE THAN SATAN HIMSELF….. something is fundermantally wrong with us as a Nation.
How do you sell unpaid coach salaries, unpaid players bonuses, no healthcare, no good pitches? Non-merit based player selection? Clueless, inept administration? How do you sell these things?
Even if Iwobi has a PHD in Marketing, it will be tough to sell nonsense. Na original bad market.
Iwobi should be commended for even attempting it. Until NFF put their house in order, their is nothing worth selling here.
