In a chat with Pooja, via X handle, the Nigerian international stated that he’s more focused on improving his performance and making himself a better player.
“Not sad, but disappointed because I had an amazing season last season, so for me not to be there… maybe the award is for African players in AFCON, I don’t know. But in general, if it’s for African Player of the Year, I think I had a great season.”
“I don’t need to prove to anybody; I don’t really care about awards and stuff. But of course, as a football player, I want to improve, I want to do more for myself,” he said.

Oga you had an amazing year for club only but LOOKMAN had an amazing year for both club and country..with the latter(country) more vital in crowning the winner…
You dey talk of club club club…what about your contribution for your fatherland…till now you never even settle…And it doesn’t seem to bother you…
Just say I think I deserve to win it but if I don’t, congratulations to whoever wins it…And move on…stop downplaying the selection process and the award itself in general…
Award it’s very important in one’s career..it a morale booster… it’s a way to appreciate and recognize your talent and quality out there…..
DON’T MIND HIM. THE GUY WAS SO LUCKY THAT HE IS STILL RELEVANT FOR SUPER EAGLE SELECTION.
HE DIDN’T SHOW STUFF ON THE FIELD OF PLAY, HE DIDN’T SCORE. THOUGH IT IS EQUAVEON I WILL BLAME THAT WAS STILL GIVEN HIM OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY. EQUAVEON SHOULD HAVE GIVING OTHER PLAYERS TO PROVE THEMSELVES IN ORDER TO CREATE MORE COMPETITION IN THAT POSITION. MOST ESPECIALLY NOW THAT OUR PLAYERS ARE DOING WELL IN STRIKING POSITION.
