“I also cried tears of joy because I really wanted to go back [to German football after previous stint at Borussia Monchengladbach]. I think it’s also part of it as a person.”
Granit Xhaka was born on 27 September 1992 in the city of Basel, Switzerland, into an ethnic Albanian family from Podujevo, Kosovo, then part of the FR Yugoslavia. The family had moved from Podujevo to Basel, Switzerland in 1990.
