Samuel Chukwueze has said he cannot end his football career without winning any trophy with the Super Eagles.
Chukwueze said this ahead of the Super Eagles’ 2023 AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone on Sunday.
The Eagles, on nine points, are second behind Guinea-Bissau after four games in Group A.
A win or draw against the Leone Stars will seal qualification to next year’s AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire.
Speaking ahead of the game with Sierra Leone, the Villarreal winger believes the Super Eagles parade talented players who can become AFCON champions.
“We want to win the AFCON for sure, because we have great young talents and we have young players who are actually ready to fight,” Chukwueze told ESPN.
“For me, I need to win a trophy with the Super Eagles because I cannot play to the end of my career without winning any trophy with the Super Eagles. This is our time.”
Qualification to next year’s AFCON will see Chukwueze feature in his third tournament.
He first made an appearance in the tournament in Egypt 2019 and also at the 2021 edition in Cameroon.

E don dey red!
That DREAM would have been POSSIBLE with GENERAL ROAH…
But with this LEBANESE COACH? Am not SURE!
Abeg Dr Dry stop disguising, we don’t care, go and watch Benin republic when they play on Saturday
You mean in 2023,we still have people THINKING @MONKEY POST is @DR DREY???
SMH…
INFACT YOU AND YOUR COLLEAGUE NEEDED TO BE SERIOUS AND BUSINESS MINDED ON THE FIELD OF PLAY. YOU SHOULD WIN LAURENS WITH SUPER EAGLE SO THAT WE FANS WILL HAVE SOMETHING TO REMEMBER YOU FOR AFTER RETIREMENT JUST LIKE 1994 & 1996 SET.
Championships and tournaments are won by teams that are consistent, know how to grind result if need be, and have players who can swing the tide of a game… Overall, teams that win tournament must parade a solid defensive strength when games don’t go easy… Midfield and Attack win matches, Defence wins tournaments.
Case in point… Greece @Euro 2004, Spain @Euro 2008,Cameroon,Strong Showing @Italia ’90, also Italy in the three world cups they won before the 2006 WC. I will continue to pray that NFF gets Tosin Adarabioyo, Recall Chidozie Awaziem who is vastly improved at Hadjuk Split and also recall Tyrone Ebuehi who by merit should be ahead of Aina and Osayi because he is more effective and intelligent than Aina and Osayi.
I know folks will call me out for submitting that Ebuehi should be ahead of Aina and Osayi, yes I have my reasons, Osayi is power and brute force, a defender has to be more than that, Aina on the other hand is silky and flashy but soft, he… Aina, is good going forward but on the bounce, his recovery when caught out is his Achilles’heal… My take.
Well said jimmy, for me Osayi just like you stated is all about power and get tired so quick as the game goes on compared to Aina and Ebuehi. Let chukwuze keep quiet, when the game matters most, that when he becomes selfish. Given up on him nd a couple of guys who no longer belong in the line up
@KENNETH… I agree with you. Ordinarily, Chukwueze is an outstanding footballer but mostly for club where he is forced to play business football unlike playing pathetically to the gallery for praise like he does each time when on Super Eagles assignment. We are yet to see any real tangible efficiency with him in the national team… just selfish aimless play and wayward horrendous final decisions, that’s where Bukayo Saka eclipses him… effects!!!
BY NOW, YOU SUPPOSE TO HAVE GRADUATED FROM BABY STYLE OF PLAY TO BIG TIME STYLE OF PLAY BY PLAYING IN ANY TOP THREE EUROPEAN CLUB IN ANY OF THE TOP FIVE EUROPEAN COUNTRY.
***IMPROVE YOUR GAME IN NATIONAL TEAM WITH FULL COMMITMENT, AGGRESSIVE AND DETERMINATION WHICH CAN ENHANCE YOU TO WIN AFRICA FOOTBALLER OF THE YEAR. FOR EXAMPLE: AMUNEKE PERFORM WELL WITH SUPER EAGLE IN 1994 &,1996 WHICH LEADS HIM TO WIN 1994 AFRICA FOOTBALLER OF THE YEAR AND SECURE A BETTER OFFER WITH SPORTING LISBON & FURTHER WITH BARCELONA.
*** LIKEWISE ALSO, IN 1996, KANU WON OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL WITH NIGERIA. AS A RESULT OF THAT, HE WON 1996 AFRICA FOOTBALLER OF THE YEAR.
*** CHUKWUEZE SHOULD IMPROVE HIS GAME BY WINNING LAUREL WITH SUPER EAGLE, SO THAT WE FANS, WILL HAVE SOMETHING TO REMEMBER YOU & YOUR TEAMMATES FOR AFTER RETIREMENT JUST LIKE THE WAY WE ALWAYS REMEMBERED 1994, 1996 SET.
All of this is ” bulaba” ” balablu”. The players are just as deluded as their administrators. For you to win a tournament, you need a very good goal keeper. We do nit have that at the moment, you need a strong , efficient and athletic midfield and a strong defense. Nigeria does not have these qualities at the moment . Midfield is in the gutters, the only really active player is iwobi. Ndidi , kelechi and aribo are all plying their trade in championship and are not guaranteed starters.
You also need a good coach with a high tactical nous for the game. Add the corrupt and incompetent NFF to mix and what you have is a recipe for disaster. Really, do these guys think they will win a tourney using the obsolete 4-4-2? Let them be playing, ….hiss.
Oga Rhor would have seriously challenged the onus of pulling the vail has he still being in-charge. This present coach does not even know what he is doing. He omitted Gift Oban and Victor Boniface and continue to use Ndidi and the outmoded Amed Musa, then one release that he is a big joker. Nigeria will surely loose this match Sunday. Believe me.
Stop man has Rhor won any match with Benin rep? everyday Rhor this Rhor that go and check Afcon table Benin rep is last on the table, mind you anybody can succeed in Nigeria because of the many talented players we have not that the coach is good, I remember if Rhor lost match he will tell you Senegal lose and Morocco also lost and fools here will be praising him, let him win Afcon with Benin .
