Nigerian striker, Victor Olatunji, has declared he is a ‘chosen’ after scoring for Sparta Prague in the UEFA Champions League against RB Salzburg on Wednesday night.
Olatunji marked his debut in the revamped Champions League debut by scoring a superb goal as Sparta Prague won 3-0.
The 25-year-old scored just before halftime, to make it 2-0 and also provided an assist for the team’s third goal before being substituted in the 64th minute.
However, it was Olatunji’s goal celebration that caught the attention of everyone.
After scoring, the Nigerian unveiled a message on his undershirt that read, “I am a Chosen, who are you?” which referenced a popular social media trend in Nigeria related to the Lord’s Chosen church.
Recently, The Lord’s Chosen has been trending, with various social media posts highlighting its enormous miracles and manifestations, sparking scepticism among some Nigerians.
Meanwhile, Olatunji made history on Wednesday night as he became the first Nigerian to score and assist on his Champions League debut.
Also, he is the third African after Daniel Cousin and Serge Aurier to achieve the feat.
Cousin in 2007 (for Rangers vs Lyon) and Aurier in 2015 (for PSG vs Shakhtat Donetsk).
