Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton is reportedly closing in on a move to Championship outfit Wigan Athletic. Former Scotland international Hutton joined Villa in 2011 from Tottenham Hotspur and has racked up over 200 appearances across all competitions for the Birmingham-based outfit.
However, despite featuring 33 times last season as the Villans earned promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs, the club has decided not to offer the defender fresh terms and he will become a free agent on July 1.
Several teams have been showing an interest in the 34-year-old and it appears Wigan, who managed to avoid relegation from the Championship last term, are leading the race for his signature. It is claimed both parties have been in discussions for some time now and an agreement is not far away, with Hutton expected to make the switch to the DW Stadium on Monday week.
