Max Huiberts has now confirmed that AZ Alkmaar are hopeful of securing a deal to sign Southampton midfelder Jordy Clasie. The 48-year-old former AZ striker is now in charge of the Dutch Eredivisie outfit’s transfer dealings and has lifted the lid on their desire to take the 17-cap Oranje international back to his homeland in this transfer window.

Clasie has struggled in England after joining Saints from Feyenoord in summer 2015, making 49 appearances and scoring two goals across his first two seasons at St Mary’s. The 27-year-old has been loaned out to Club Brugge and former club Feyenoord respectively over the past two campaigns and is now looking to secure a permanent exit as he approaches the final year of his St Mary’s contract.
And, following last week’s reports that AZ and Southampton had opened talks about a deal for Clasie, Huiberts has revealed that he is a prime target for them. He told news outlet NH Nieuws: “Sometimes there is a chance to get this kind of boy. The coach has been in contact with him. “Jordy Clasie has a one-year contract with Southampton. We have to wait and see how this develops.”
