Bright Osayi-Samuel has explained the role Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro played in convincing him to play for Nigeria.
Osayi-Samuel got his first call-up to the Eagles for Thursday’s international friendly game with Portugal.
The 24-year-old Fenerbahce winger explained Peseiro’s role in getting him to play for the Eagles.
“I’m delighted to be here, I’ve always said I would like to play for my country and I’m happy to get the opportunity to show what I’m all about,” he said on NFF TV.
“My invitation to the Super Eagles, I knew about it like a month or two months ago, the coach (Jose Peseiro) called my coach because they knew each other and said he wants to know if I’m interested to play for Nigeria. And by the time he asked me I already knew my answer, I’m Nigerian and I’m proud being a Nigerian when the opportunity came to play for the country I’m on it.
“My coach came to ask me if I wanted to play and I said of course I wanted to play and from there I got called by the Team Manager just to confirm if I wanted to play and I said yes.

“I just want to play to my best, show what I’m capable of and obviously bring my qualities into the team and make the team stronger.”
Osayi-Samuel, who played for Blackpool and Queens Park Rangers during his time in England, also spoke about his background
“I was born in Nigeria and I moved to Spain briefly with my family and I moved to London,” he said. “I don’t tend to speak too much I’m not shy but I don’t like to talk too much, I’m that quite guy and humble as well. I’m part Benin, Edo State, I can understand (the language) but I cannot speak it.“
Osayi-Samuel has played in 11 of Fenerbahce’s league games this season but is yet to score.
Fenerbahce, on 29 points, currently top the league table and are just two points ahead of Galatasaray.

I saw some of his games on you tube, he looks quite a decent player and very similar to aino but probably more skillful as he is a winger.. ebuehi has to convince the coach that he is better than this guy
I am starting to see Ebuehi more as a centre back.
I think you could be on to something here. Ebuehi might flourish in that role.
Ebuehi is not physical enough to be a Centre back. I hope these new boys can do a decent job in defense. We need more options in that department. If Tomori decides to switch to nigeria then we will seriously be talking about improving the super Eagles defense.
Let’s see how the match will turn out.
Fikayo Tomori is no longer eligible to play for Nigeria, as per FIFA rules. If players like Tosin Adarabioyo of Fulham, Jordan Torunarigha of Gent, or Felix Uduokhai of Augsburg are interested in a switch, they are still eligible, but not Tomori or Tammy Abraham.
Tomori is still eligible as per FIFA new rule but to Abraham
….but not Abraham
Can you please explain how Tomori is still eligible? I want to know.
NFF should be smart enough to utilize this time and speak with Tomori, Adarabioyo and Okoli of ATALANTA.
As for Torunarigha, he and his father have spoken that they are ready to play for Nigeria so, issue there.
Why is NFF foot dragging to apply for switch
Next – OVIE EJARIA.
Coach Pese, give the lad a call.
That guy is not getting a good run of games at Reading this season.
Tomori has only played three games for the toothless three lions, so is eligible to play for the emilokans and the Almajeris republic
