Belgium international and former Chelsea star Eden Hazard says his ambition is to enjoy his football at Real Madrid as a free role player, score goals and win trophies.
Hazard played his first match as Real Madrid player in a pre-season International Champion Cup match against Bayern Munich last week which the Laliga side lost 3-1.
He is expected to play his second game tonight (Tuesday) when Madrid clash with Premier League side Arsenal in Maryland.
Hazard is looking to use the pre-season games to be in great shape ahead of the new season in Spain when Madrid will challenge for major trophies again. They finished third in Laliga, exited the Champions League in the Round of 16 and crashed out in the semifinals of Copa del Rey.
Hazard helped Chelsea to win the Europa League last season, and is now raring to play well and help
bring home titles at the Santiago Bernabeu.
“When you play for Real Madrid you need to win things every season. You need to win, win, win,” Madrid’s official website quotes Hazard as saying.
“If you don’t win the Champions League the fans get down and that’s to be expected. At this club you always want to win and that’s why l’m here.
“I want to play games, score goals and, come the end of the season, lift trophies.”
Hazard added: “I play with freedom. That’s difficult in football because there are defenders, midfielders… but that’s the kind of player I am.
“If I don’t have that freedom I don’t play well and end up on the bench. I like to get on the ball, move to
the right, to the left, shift around
and play with my instinct.
“I don’t think: I have to do this, play the ball to the right, to the left. I just play, get on the balland decide what to do.”
