Chelsea’s maverick winger Eden Hazard may have dropped the biggest hint that he has played his last game for the club.
Hazard helped Chelsea to a 4-1 win over Arsenal in the Europa League final in Baku, scoring twice told BT Sport he will decide his future in days.
“It was good. I think both teams were playing with a bit of stress in the first half because it was a final, but when Olivier scored, it was the beginning of a great night,” Hazard told BT Sport.
“We played well and controlled the game and I’m happy to leave this trophy with the boys. The manager said to carry on playing football at the break and today we showed our mentality.”
On his future Hazard said: “We will decide in a few days and the only target in my mind tonight was to win this final.”
“I have made my decision already and now I’m waiting on both clubs. I think it is goodbye, but in football, you never know. My dream was to play in the Premier League and I have done that for one of the
biggest clubs so maybe now it is the time for a new challenge.”
Hazard was voted the Professional Footballers’ Association Bristol Street Motors Premier League Fans’ Player of the Year.
The Belgian international won with 34 per cent of the vote and he fended off competition from some stellar names to claim this award.
Manchester City’s Premier League title-winning trio of Bernardo Silva, Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling were on the shortlist as were Liverpool pair Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane.
Hazard becomes the first Blues player to win this award in 14 years following in the footsteps of club legend Frank Lampard. Furthermore, this is the latest of individual awards for the 28-year-old this season.
He made history at the Chelsea end of season awards by being named Player of the Year as well as Players’ Player of the Year and won Goal of the Season award for his stunning goal against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.
In doing so, Hazard became the first Blues player to collect all three awards in the same year, and the first to win the main award for a fourth time.
Many Chelsea fans will feel this is the least the attacking midfielder deserves after not being named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season despite 16 goals and 15 assists – the highest goal contribution across the entire division.
