Southampton are reportedly poised to join the running to sign midfield starlet Ritsu Doan from Dutch Eredivisie outfit Groningen.
The 20-year-old Japan international has scored four goals and produced three assists so far in his second Dutch top-flight season and his form has already resulted in him being linked with moves to title-chasing duo Ajax and PSV Eindhoven.
However, Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has also been alerted by Doan’s qualities and it is being suggested that he will join the race for the youngster’s signature.
If Doan does join the Saints it will not be the first time a player has moved to the club from the Eredivisie following past swoops to bring in the likes of Maya Yoshida, Graziano Pelle and Dusan Tadic.
It is not known what price-tag Groningen have placed on Doan, but as boss Danny Buijs has compared him to Liverpool’s £25million star Gini Wijnaldum, he will not come cheap.
