Hampshire are hopeful they will be able to call upon James Vince for Saturday’s Royal London One-Day Cup Final against Somerset. Vince’s recent performances for England in their ODI and T20i series against Pakistan have boosted his chances of being included in their final 15-man squad for this summer’s World Cup.

That final squad announcement is due to be made on Tuesday and under ICC World Cup regulations Vince would be unable to play in any other competitions if he were selected, which means he would be unavailable for Saturday’s showpiece final at Lord’s.
Vince has played a key role in Hampshire’s run through to the final, not only as captain, but also with some impressive knocks with the bat, including the highest score of this year’s tournament when he made 190 against Gloucestershire.
Hampshire are the reigning Royal London One-Day Cup champions, but their chances of retaining their title will certainly be dented if they have to do without Vince, although chairman Rod Bransgrove feels the ICC rules are “ambivalent” and are therefore open to interpretation.
