Guinea President, Colonel Mamady Doumbouya has warned the Syli Stars to win the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations or risk returning all the taxpayers’ money spent on them.
The Syli Nacional will be heading to their 13th Nations Cup in Cameroon with their best ever performance being in 1976 when they finished as runners-up.
In spite of the team’s efforts in winning the competition which they are still yet to, Colonel Doumbouya is optimistic that they can be successful and has urged the players led by the caption, Keita, to go all out for the ultimate.
“The cup or you reimburse the money that’s been invested in you,” he said to the team at their sending off meeting.
Guinea have been drawn in Group B alongside Senegal, Zimbabwe and Malawi at the tournament which kicks off in Cameroon on 9 January.

That na my yash o, no fit laff off o. That means Nigeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Algeria will face firing squad should they loose the cup. Ha ha ha, Africans still never understood football is about winning, loosing or drawing. Oga president, na owhalen u be o.
The probability that the team will win is 1/3, so where is the kaaki man getting his threat loaded?
Ha!!! Ha!! Ha! They might not even come out from their group.
@Jesse, ratio 1/3 is under a normal situation but Guinea can’t be compared to African finest. A ratio of 1/500 would do. Meanwhile, Mamady Doumbouya is crazy.
This team has some exciting talents like Sory Kaba and mamady. They can harm any defence if taken for granted.
He should be told military rule is old fashioned. …And he wants to play a patriot. Mamady has history of human rights abuse, so I’m not surprised he is set to abuse the rights of Syli stars. He was one of 25 officials from Guinea that the EU threatened to sanction over allegations of human rights abuses some years ago.
What I see here is accountability .
Well said Mr. President.
I don’t think the man is serious at all otherwise he would’ve giving the boys some gunz to overthrow CAF and annex the cup. hmmmm! We must hear something from Africa.
Correction. given not giving.
I may be wrong, but this looks like a “tongue in cheek” comment from the Guinea president. Not meant to be taken seriously.
The president is only motivating his team.
Okay let’s even say it was a motivational speech, it will make more sense if African leaders including Col. Mamady Doumbouya going by the same yardstick, deliver on their promises to the people, failure of which they should return all they collected from the common till. How will it sound?
