Arsenal are reportedly on the verge of signing German goalkeeper Markus Schubert on a free transfer. Germany Under-21 international Schubert will officially become a free agent on July 1 after he decided not to sign a new contract with Dynamo Dresden, where he has been since 2011.
The 21-year-old is regarded as one of the most promising talents in Europe and looks set to make the switch to the Premier League following reports of interest from Arsenal. With Petr Cech now retired and David Ospina on the verge of joining Napoli permanently after a successful loan spell, manager Unai Emery is keen to bring in some reinforcements in the keeping department.
Schubert, who was initially identified by Arsenal’s former head of recruitment Sven Mislintat, would either be back-up to Bernd Leno or sent out to a Championship team to gain more experience.
