Guinea striker Serhou Guirassy has opened up after missing out on the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award to Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman.
Guirassy made the final five shortlist alongside Lookman, Ronwen Williams, Simon Adingra and Achraf Hakimi.
But at the award ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco on Monday, Lookman was announced as the winner, succeeding compatriot Victor Osimhen.
Commenting after losing out on the award, Guirassy wrote on his X handle:”Dear brothers and sisters,
“Even if the African Ballon d’Or was not awarded to me this year, that in no way takes away the pride I feel in having worn the colors of our dear Guinea high. Above all, I would like to thank you, family, teammates, coaches, friends, you, my people, for your unfailing support and trust.
“Your love, your strength and your solidarity carry me every day. I am convinced that this unity and this fraternity must be preserved and maintained, in all circumstances. Together we can accomplish great things.
“This is just the beginning. I will continue to give the best of myself, for you, for our country, and to inspire all young Guineans who dream big.
“Thanks again for everything.”
