Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes his side have got a “good player” in summer arrival Rodri. Having risen to fame during the last three La Liga seasons, Spain international Rodri joined reigning Premier League champions City in July on a five-year contract after City met his 70million euros release clause in his Atletico Madrid contract.
The 23-year-old has been described as the new Sergio Busquets, who has been a lynch-pin for Barcelona and Spain for a decade, and his arrival at the Etihad Stadium has been welcomed by Guardiola. “He is a tall guy, which for a short team like we are is very good,” the City boss told the club’s official website. “Good for set-pieces, but that’s not why we bought him.
He is young, a typical holding midfielder who is so quick in his thinking. We expect him to have a long career with our Club. “Since we arrived, we tried to get players who are 21, 22, or 23 – he is in the national team and in Spain they call him the second Busquets, so I think we have a good player.” Rodri was handed a start in City’s 4-1 pre-season Premier League Asia Trophy win against West Ham United, playing alongside the experienced David Silva and academy graduate Tommy Doyle in midfield.
