Project Elevate Local Football in Anambra State is in full swing thanks to Dr Emeka Okeke the former Caretaker Committee chairman of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA).
Dr Okeke who has tendered his resignation as the ANSFA Caretaker Committee boss, has managed to break grounds and make history in the football community by doing things that had never been done before in Anambra State, and now wants greater positive transformations by whoever becomes the substantive chairman.
“The goal is to create an environment for talents, skills and hardwork to thrive in Anambra football. This will ensure increased participation in local, state and national leagues, increased number of national and international trophies, increased number of Anambra-born NIS, CAF and FIFA licensed coaches and referees, Increased representation in national team outings, and revenue generation for players, owners, investors and Anambra State. We all have a role to play and nobody will be left behind,” Dr. Okeke stated.

Inaugurated on the 6th of August by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), the caretaker committee launched “My Anambra Football” campaign, an initiative designed to promote and elevate grassroot football in Anambra state and in Nigeria.
Just 2 days after his inauguration as Chairman, he moved the ANSFA secretariat from a lock-up shop in Awka to a Duplex in a fitting Neighbourhood in Awka, Anambra State; and acquired 2 brand new buses to facilitate the activities of the FA.
During the inauguration he promised total inclusion of all football stakeholders in the State which prompted the very first club owners’ summit in Anambra State. The club owners were further inducted into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme courtesy of the Caretaker Committee.

In their commitment to the promotion of grassroots football, the committee under the Leadership of Dr Okeke sponsored a four-week club owners’ radio tour where over 30 club owners in Anambra State visited three different radio stations creating awareness for their clubs.
With a plan to bring back female football in the State, we also witnessed the screening of female footballers by the My Anambra Football Ambassador, Maureen Madu supported by the Caretaker Committee.
Dr Okeke had also pledged to bring beach soccer to Anambra State as a form of Recreation and revenue generating project for the local communities and for the State via Tourism. The idea has already been put into action as sites are currently being inspected for Anambra Beach Soccer, Beach Party and Beach Fun.
Indeed the committee has done in less than two months, what has never been done in the history of the State’s football Association. We can’t wait to see what the future has in store for the ANSFA, and we can only hope that whoever emerges Chairman of the ANSFA after the elections will keep up the momentum and the innovative work that Dr Emeka Okeke has started.
