Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon has revealed that he used to be obsessed about scoring goals and creating assists as a player.
Recall that Gordon netted the matchwinner against Arsenal in Saturday’s Premier League.
Gordon’s lone goal needed three VAR checks before it was allowed to stand.
In a chat with TribalFootball, Gordon, “Amazing win – against a big team like that at home. The way we won in terms of having so many games really the team is so stretched some of us are maxed out so to dig in there with eight minutes to go was amazing.
“I’m saying I’m maxed out but I do feel good. I’m not complaining, I’m playing in this team against top teams every week so no complaints from me.”

On his goal, he added: “We’ve been having some jokes about me playing number nine me and the gaffer. I just hoped I hadn’t celebrated too quick, I’m delighted it counted.
“When I play number nine, I am a different build to the other lads and pressing and running behind is big for me and I try to do that as much as possible.
“I used to be obsessed with goals and assists but my main focus now is just being trustworthy for the manager, that’s got me in a good place so I won’t be changing that.
“Incredible, you can see our togetherness. The side is stretched and we don’t have many players, to go to Manchester United and win 3-0 then play like that against Arsenal is incredible.”
