Newcastle Falcons’ Fiji international winger Vereniki Goneva has joined Premiership side Harlequins for the 2019-20 campaign. The 35-year-old veteran, who has scored 20 tries in 55 Tests for his country, is also sitting 14th on the list of all-time top league scorers in the English Premiership on 58 tries.

Goneva has spent the past three seasons with the Falcons following a five-year stint at Leicester, but he will now link up with Quins where he could become a natural successor to Tim Visser, who retired at the end of last term. “They were the first club that I had a jersey for,” Goneva said on the club’s website. “My dad bought me one when I was very little because it is his favourite team, and so I have always had an affinity for them.”
“It’s a real coup for us,” Quins head of rugby Paul Gustard added. “With Tim’s retirement at the end of last season we have been looking to bring in quality to supplement our very exciting young wingers in Gabs [Ibitoye] and Cadan [Murley], and there is no doubt Niki is real quality.” The deal to sign Goneva follows on from the arrival of South African three-quarter Travis Ismaiel, who joined from the Bulls on Tuesday.
