Heurelho Gomes could continue his career beyond Watford’s FA Cup final appearance on Saturday as he has yet to confirm his retirement. The 38-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper was “99 per cent certain” that this would be his final season as a professional when quizzed about his future back in March.

Gomes was the first-choice between the sticks at Vicarage Road since arriving from Tottenham in summer 2014 and helped the club reach the Premier League in his first season. He only lost his place in the side this past term with Ben Foster joining from relegated West Brom 12 months ago and taking over the number one jersey.
But boss Javi Gracia has used him in cup games so Gomes is poised to feature in the FA Cup final against Manchester City. And there are reports that Gomes could perform a U-turn and decide to play on for another season given that Gracia and his fellow custodian, Foster, have both insisted that they would like to see him continue his career. If Gomes does stay on then it is likely that Daniel Bachmann, who has spent this season on loan at Kilmarnock in Scotland, or Swedish youngster Pontus Dahlberg will be sent out on loan.
