Sussex head coach Jason Gillespie has backed George Garton to fight his way back in the England reckoning.
A left-arm quick who can hit 90mph on a regular basis is always going to be in demand and Garton was called into the England nets for the 2017-18 Ashes series despite just a handful of matches.
He did not move on from there and a loss of form meant he spent most of the next summer playing second XI cricket.
However, Gillespie believes he will step back up and make himself a contender again if he produces for Sussex. “George is an exciting young all-rounder,” said Gillespie. “I hope he can take some opportunities when they get presented this summer.

He needs to work on his consistency of line and length. “His challenge is to be in a position that – when a position comes up – he is at the front of the queue to grab it with both hands. “There are no guarantees of selection but I am confident if he gets an opportunity, he will give himself the best chance.”
