Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface was benched as Bayer Leverkusen thrashed third division club Sandhausen 5-2 in Wednesday’s round of 32 of the German DFB Pokal.
The win means Leverkusen have now joined the likes of Hamburg, Monchengladbach and Dortmund, Stuttgart and Wolfsburg in the round of 16.
Boniface scored his first goal for Leverkusen in the DFB Pokal back in August.
The former Union SG striker scored one of the goals as Leverkusen destroyed a lower league side Teutonia Ottensen 8-0.
Boniface scored the second goal for Xabi Alonso’s side in the 42nd minute.

Leverkusen’s only success in the DFB Pokal was in 1993 and they have finished runners-up on three occasions – 2002, 2009 and 2020.
In another round of 32 game played on Wednesday, Kevin Akpoguma was in action for Hoffenheim who lost 1-0 away to Dortmund.
Akpoguma was replaced in the 64th minute of the encounter.
