The agent of Cristian Zapata has revealed that Genoa’s “project” was the key to him choosing them over other clubs this summer. The 32-year-old Colombia international central defender was available on a free transfer after seven seasons with AC Milan, where he made 148 appearances in all competitions.
Sampdoria, Bologna and Sassuolo were all linked with a move to sign Lapata, but the former Villarreal man opted to stay in Serie A with Genoa. On the decision of Zapata to move to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on a two-year deal after his country’s involvement in the Copa America in Brazil, his agent Ivan Cordoba told the Secolo XIX newspaper: “Cristian has given up the chance to play for so many other teams and a lot of money because he is convinced by the project that Genoa have.”
