French tennis star Richard Gasquet says he would like to carry on playing for another two or three years at least. The 33-year-old reached the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Masters this weekend before being knocked out by Belgian 16 seed David Goffin.
The former Wimbledon semi-finalist is currently ranked at 56 after suffering with injuries over the past few years but, through entry via the protected ranking system, he was able to show glimpses of his best at the American tournament, as he beat Andy Murray and Roberto Bautista Agut on his way to the final four.
Despite his previous injury issues, Gasquet is happy with his tennis and plans to keep on playing for as long as possible. “I still enjoy it. I’m still playing well. I still like to play matches.
I don’t know how long I will play. Maybe two, three years,” he said. “Of course it’s big longevity for me, but you see a lot of players who are playing late now, so it helps for me to play more and more.”
