Atalanta manager, Gian Piero Gasperini has explained his reason for opting to start Ademola Lookman on the bench in the Supercoppa defeat to Inter Milan.
La Dea lost the keenly contested encounter played in Riyadh , Saudi Arabia 2-0.
The coach made some very surprising choices going into encounter leaving star names like Charles De Ketelaere, Ademola Lookman and Ederson on the bench in favour of Nicolò Zaniolo, Lazar Samardzic and Giorgio Scalvini.

Lookman was only introduced in 56 minutes after Denzel Dumfries had opened the scoring for Inter with an acrobatic attempt from a corner.
“I was not experimenting at all. We have many players, we had a long and tough run of games, the Supercoppa came at the right time for us to verify players who contributed, but played relatively little compared to others,” Gasperini told Sport Mediaset.
“We were up against Inter in the semi-final and it was the right time to try this.”
Atalanta will now return to Italy where they will shift focus to their quest to win the Scudetto.
