Gambia head coach Tom Saintfiet has tipped Nigeria’s Super Eagles as one of the favourites to win the AFCON 2023.
The Eagles will be seeking a fourth AFCON title after last winning the tournament in 2013.
The three-time AFCON winners are in Group A alongside Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea.
Saintfiet will lead Gambia to their second appearance at the AFCON after they made their debut in 2021.
Speaking on the chances of the Eagles, the Belgian coach said he will be interested to see how Jose Peseiro’s men will perform.

”Everyone knows my passion and love for Nigerian football,” he said on Brila FM.
“It will be interesting to see how Nigeria will perform because for me they are one of the favourites it’s been 11 years since (Late) Stephen Keshi won it for them.”
The Eagles will open their training camp in Abu Dhabi United Arab Emirates.

Twerking for the job!
Hahahaha. The guy is really desperate for the SE job. Sainfeit, Mosimane, Paseiro, Amuneke, no one is hiding their ambition. Everyone of them believes the SE has the potential to shock the world at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and they want to be the one leading the team at the tournament.
Mosiame is the choosen one if we must be honest and ambitious for once.
Eguavoen harbours secret ambitions to finish what he started.
So watch this space!
But he will fail because I strongly tip Peseiro to attempt to guide us to the semi-finals. Although I suspect the quarter final fixture will be his toughest.
We are winning afcon.
If the knockout stage fixtures are kind to us, then anything is possible. To that end, perhaps coming second in our group will be a blessing because coming first could set us on a collision course with Cameroon in the round of 16.
Either way we might still meet Cameroon in the quarter final.
That said, it will be fascinating to see how Peseiro’s 4-2-4, 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1 in-game formations hold out in a tournament.
I don’t know but am not excited about this afcon, I don’t put any hope on this team, may be it is because of the way we were disgraced and bundled out of the last afcon and the then couple with how we missed the world cup.
Those two incidents are not making me to come to terms with these presents eagles and to compound the whole situation is how tactically shallow this our coach is.
For me is just like this afcon is not existing but I hope and pray eagles surpass my expectation.
I pray
Saintfiet is a rare breed I believe his love of the Super Eagles, and passion to coach them recommend him strongly for the job
