Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney will be a target for Newcastle United this summer, according to reports. The Cottagers look likely to return to the Championship after just one season in the top flight, following a disastrous campaign that has led to the sackings of two managers in Slavisa Jokanovic and Claudio Ranieri.

They are 13 points off safety with just 21 points left to play for as they get ready to play host to Manchester City on Saturday. Cairney, a Scotland international, was instrumental in helping Fulham achieve promoted to the Premier League last season, scoring the winner in the play-off final against Aston Villa.
However, he has struggled to make an impact this term, failing to score in 23 top-flight appearances, having been rotated in and out of the side. Despite his poor return, reports suggest that Newcastle have seen something in Cairney’s make up to tempt them into making a bid.
With Jonjo Shelvey looking increasingly likely to leave the summer, a space has opened up for a creative midfielder and the report states Newcastle want to make a bid, although they will be reluctant to meet Fulham’s £30million asking price.
