Ghana head coach Otto Addo has said the Black Stars were unlucky to lose to Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Friday’s friendly game in Marrakech, Morocco.
The Eagles recorded a first win against the Black Stars since 2006, thanks to goals from Cyriel Dessers (first half penalty) and substitute Ademola Lookman.
Jordan Ayew pulled a goal back deep into stoppage time from the penalty spot for Addo’s men but the Eagles held on to clinch the win.
The four-time AFCON winners had to play most part of the second half with 10 men after Jerome Opoku was shown a straight red card.
It was not the best of start for Addo who returned as Black Stars coach, as his side have now failed to win any of their last six games (three defeats, three draws).

Speaking to ghanafa.org after the game, Addo praised his players for their second half performance
“I don’t like to look too much about the positives because we lost. But I think we were a bit unlucky the way we conceded the first goal as the ball hit the hand but like I said we were unlucky,” he said.
“First half they had the better chances but in the second half we really, really did well. If you want to come to the positive signs, the things we did in the second half with 10 men was good.
“We controlled them; we were a little bit unlucky with the finishing. I think what killed us was their second goal because we were close to actually equalize but in all, a draw would have been deserved but like I said we lost and we have to improve and move on.”
The Black Stars would hope to do better when they face Uganda in another friendly game.
On their part, the Eagles will take on Mali on Tuesday also in Marrakech.

Excuses!!. You will never taste a victory against Nigeria never, even a draw. This is a different Super Eagles.
I was expecting this foolish response from Ghana coach after the match. Instead of him to say that they were lucky that Nigeria didn’t beat them more than 2:1. The goal margin would have been more if Finidi had paired Lukman with Dessers and introduced Simon on time.
Also, our first eleven in the Afcon didn’t play the match.
Let the small boys keep weeping.
It’s a shame that both the coach and his players carried their barbaric behavior to Morocco that lead to one of the players with red card and the coach would have received card also if it’s not that the referee pardon him. The earlier you ghanaians realize that Nigeria no be your mate the better. Nigeria is Ghana big brother anytime.
God bless Nigeria.
God the Super Eagles.
I mean:
God bless Nigeria.
God bless Super Eagles.
Ghana coach didn’t speak like a sportsman, even with the game being a friendly between close nations and in that case the unlucky syndrome would continue to follow your dark star team
It’s Nigeria that saw the match as friendly. Ghanaians always see competitions between ghana and Nigeria as war.
I keep on telling ghanaians that we no dey the same level. Nigeria is big brother of ghana. For example look at All African games that ghana host. All games are home for ghana and away for nigeria we are still far above them in medals table.
God has blessed Nigeria already.
Nigeria only need to appreciate and be serious with what they have.
We can tease and make fun of each other. That’s part of the fun. But this talk of us being superior to them is unfounded. We are all equal before God.
