Lorient forward Terem Moffi is expected to lead the Super Eagles attack against Portugal on Thursday.
Moffi started Nigeria’s 2-1 friendly defeat to Desert Foxes of Algeria last month in the absence of Victor Osimhen.
The 23-year-old enhanced his reputation by scoring his side’s solitary goal in the game.
Moffi will now be look upon again to deliver the goods against the former European champions following Osimhen’s absence due to injury.

The striker has scored three goals in his last two appearances for the Super Eagles.
Moffi has also been in fantastic form for Lorient this season.
He has so far scored 10 goals in 14 league appearances for Les Merlus.
Only France international Kylian Mbappe (12 goals) and Brazil superstar Neymar (11 goals) have scored more goals than him in the French top-flight.
Paul Onuachu and Cyriel Dessers are the other forwards included the squad for the friendly.

To be brutally honest, Osimhen is great, but he needs SERIOUS competition in that team. Dessers & Onuachu too should stand up to be counted, Canada/US/Mexico ’26 should be the goal, we need a fearsome front-three for the immediate future, even the next AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire as well
It will difficult for other Super Eagles strikers to displace Osimhen.Osimhen as a kid was hussling pure water in Lagos traffic to assist the home front and it has become part of his football life.Osimhen is a general contractor in hussling in the field of play and he is always there to assist in the defence. If he was selfish he would have scored more goals and he is not.So I cant see any striker taking his spot in the team presently not now.He has pace, technic and he is also good in the air.We just have to keep praying for him against injuries because this season he will surely win something.
Osimhen is the incoming caf player of the year if caf doesn’t rig it against him
Unfortunately, due to Nigeria’s absence in Qatar,Osimhen’s has a very slim chance of winning the African footballer of the year,at least not this year,I’m afraid.
@GREENTURF CAF mostly take into consideration AFCON DUTIES, NATIONAL TEAM DUTIES then the rest na JARA…
I believe that’s why it’s called CAF PLAYER of the YEAR AWARD….
For which year….??? 2022…?
Where there is a Sadio Mane who won AFCON, will play at the world cup (hopefully), firing for Bayern Munich (will likely win a treble at the end of the season) and was one of the runner ups for the World footballer of the year….?
Wake up please
He is promising but CAF also takes into consideration your performance and availability for the national team. Missing matches like he’s doing lately wo.t help his case. Players who have won it in the past are committed and dedicated national team players. Samuel Eto, George Weah, Salalah, Toure, name them
I won’t mind a three pronged attack with moffi, lookman and either dessers or Dennis.
Lookman is the best winger we have in the team at the moment so he should start. He is a goal threat, good with free kicks and penalties and knows how to use both feet.
The midfield is stocked for the first time in a long while.
Iwobi and ndidi starts of course. With either etebo or aribo.
It’s uzoho in goal, okoye hasn’t been doing much at Watford but everyone has seen uzoho being active for his club.
In defense I see peseiro using akpoguma and Bassey as his Centre back. Bright and awaziem will compete for the right back, while ebuehi and the defender will compete for the left back position but the boavista guy might get the nod since I heard that he is left footed.
Let’s see how it turns out.
Moffi deserves to lead the attack based on his current form but I want to see Dessers in the very beginning of the second half and Onuachu as well have a role to play in tomorrow’s match.
I won’t blame Osimhen because some times, it is very hard for any club to release their top striker or players.
All the best to our darling Super Eagles. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
